The India Aeronautical Information Service, Airport Authority of India, has announced that the runway at Visakhapatnam Airport will remain closed for certain time periods from November 15, 2023, to April 1, 2024, due to runway resurfacing work activities.

During the closure period, the airfield would not be available even for emergency landings. Visakhapatnam airport, which is under the control of the Indian Navy, had proposed the closure of night landing to pave way for the runway resurfacing work. However, air traveller associations and industry want the reduction in the closure hours.

As per the circular issued by the AAI, the runway of Visakhapatnam Airport would be closed for flight operations due to runway resurfacing work from 1530 UTC to 0230 UTC (next day) which means closing down the main runway for the night operations from 9pm to 8am the next day daily from November 15 of 2023 for four and a half months.
