In about a year, Patna‘s Jaiprakash Narayan International Airport will appear in a completely new avatar with a new terminal building replacing the existing one. Not only this, the infrastructural development around the terminal building is being completed on a war footing.

In the mean time, the construction of a six-storey building at the airport, which will house a multi-level car parking and shopping complex, is complete and it is likely to be operational by year-end. A tender for the development of the internal infrastructure of the shopping complex, office and parking lot has been issued recently. The chosen nodal agency will be given three months’ time for the development.

According to an airport official, the tender for the development works will be opened by mid-September. “The seven-storey building, spread over 3.5 lakh square feet, is 118m long and 42m wide. It has a G+5 structure, including the basement, with each floor having an area of about 5,000sqm. The parking facility will be developed in the basement, ground floor and the first four floors, which will be able to accommodate more than 750 four-wheelers at a time, while the top floor of the building is earmarked for commercial purposes,” he said.

100% lounge access coverage for Air India’s premium flyers across international destinations

Since embarking on its comprehensive, 5-year transformation plan, Vihaan.AI, Air India has increased the coverage of lounge access from 16 to 26 airports in India, having entered partnerships with airport lounges at Dibrugarh, Indore, Jammu, Lucknow, Madurai, Mangalore, Nagpur, Patna, Srinagar, and Vadodara. Additionally, at 11 airports where no lounges are available, Air India has partnered with the best available food courts.

The official added the parking facility is being developed in view of future needs. “After the completion of the new terminal building next year, the air operations at Patna airport will increase very rapidly. The number of passengers would also increase significantly, requiring more space for parking,” the official said.He further said flyers could get a splendid view of the airport and its surrounding areas from the top floor of the new seven-floor building. “They could also witness the flight landings and take-offs. There will be commercial shops of big brands and office space on the rooftop. The air passengers waiting for the flights can spend their leisure time there.”

Apart from this, the new cargo building at the Patna airport is also ready, and it will be commissioned soon. A new air traffic control (ATC) tower and technical block building is also complete, and installation of equipment is in progress, which will be over in the next few months. Also the new fire building is ready. Along with these, a new state hangar is being built by demolishing the old one, which will be ready within a year.
