Eight months after Varanasi, Delhi and Bengaluru international airport introduced biometric self-boarding gates or check-in with facial recognition technology (FRT), Lucknow’s Chaudhary Charan Singh international airport (Uttar Padesh) also introduced DigiYatra on August 23.

In the first phase, passengers of only two airlines will be able to avail the facility. The airport operator has deployed ‘Digi Saathis’ at the entry gate of Terminal-2 to help passengers enrol in DigiYatra programme. The digital service can be availed at the entry, pre-security check, and boarding points.

Passengers opting for check-in through DigiYatra process will have to register either at the airport or through DigiYatra portal.

Guwahati airport gets Digi Yatra facility

The service will be available in three major areas of the airport — the first entrance, check-in and boarding areas. As of now, the Digi Yatra facility is available for Akasa and IndiGo passengers in Guwahati, and it will be offered by all other airlines by September, Union Civil Aviation Secretary Rajeev Bansal said.

Once registered, the passenger will receive a unique DY ID, which can be used for all future air travels across India. Passengers can get a DigiYatra ID by sharing details like name, email address, mobile number and details of an identity proof. The unique DY ID will be linked to passengers PNR number. The portal, with the help of airline, would recognize and match details such as city, airport and airline with passengers and send details to security staff at the airport, six hours prior to the departure of the flight, so that passengers can travel smoothly.

DigiYatra will be able to walk through departure entry gate, pre-security hold area (pre-SHA), and boarding gate after facial biometrics scan.
